Mothers Who Dream, Early September '02 Issue |
 |
|
In This Issue: |
Greetings from Mothers Who Dream! |
|
September brings a rush of back-to-school
activities that add extra items on mothers' agendas. With this month also
comes a change of season. Here in Southern
California, the turning calendar page cast a spell on the
evening wind. A nip is in the air, a breath of cooler times
ahead. As if clinging to the last of summer, the trees hold
onto leaves that are beginning to turn from lush green to
the warm golds and reds of fall. Be sure to
enjoy a little of the outdoors while the weather allows you
to.
I love
autumn when the spicy colors of nature begin to blanket
the earth as if bundling up for the long, cold winter ahead.
But a change in the weather, along with more time spent
indoors, can also bring colds and flu. Be sure to take care
of yourself. I've long been a believer in nutritional
supplements for health. For the last several years, a zinc
lozenge is the first thing I put in my mouth each morning--and I've been cold and flu free.
Just a tidbit from one mother to another. . . . We're too
busy to get sick!
This issue, meet successful super-mother Ann
Butenas. This accomplished woman admits to feeling
guilty now and again. In an upcoming issue, I'll talk more
about dealing effectively with guilt. For now, enjoy this
month's Mothers Who Dream Profile, and take pride in all you
do --including the things you do just for yourself!

Ann Butenas - Not a
Robot
By Sheri McGregor
Ann
Butenas has held many odd jobs. She was a nanny, taught
tennis, worked in the entertainment industry and as a
paralegal for an insurance defense firm. After getting
married, she went back to school to earn a B.S. in
Communications and a post-bachelor paralegal certificate.
She also earned her Master's in Business Management,
attending school nights and working days, during her first
two pregnancies. "A Ph.D. is out of the question," teases
Butenas. "I'm afraid it will lead to twins!"
Teasing
aside, Butenas calls herself a "Type A" personality. "I love
complete cleanliness and organization," says this mother of
three boys who hosts her own weekly radio show in Kansas
City called "Right at Home with Ann." Butenas has
capitalized on her natural organization skills by creating a
parents' binder to keep children's records. The binder is
sold in stores all over the world. She is also on the
faculty of Baker University, serves on the Board for the
Kansas City Press Club, owns ANZ, publications and does
freelance writing.
Whew!
How does Butenas accomplish so much?
Read on.
