Bouquet of Life
By Sheri McGregor

If your life were a bouquet, what would it look like? Just as a lovely mixed bouquet must have a balance of greenery and color, our "life bouquet" can get scraggly over time. A bouquet needs pruning back and removal of dead blooms to keep it looking and smelling good. And it's the same with the bouquet of one's life. . . .

As busy women, we often have such a variety of life flowers to tend that the small ones get lost behind the bigger ones' petals. Shorter ones that we love can get smothered down inside the neck of the vase. But if the flowers aren't carefully arranged, then none of them look good. A bouquet without balance is too "busy," and takes on a sloppy appearance. The result is that whole bouquet detracts from the individual beauty of each flower.

Take a look at the bouquet of your life. Are some of your flowers getting scraggly and needing a snip or two to bring them back to life? Are some smaller joys not getting enough attention and becoming smothered by bigger (perhaps not so sweet-smelling) blooms? Are some of the flower varieties no longer bringing you joy? And what about the water? Is it murky or clear?

Today, give some thought to your life bouquet. Prune out what no longer brings you joy. Snip or re-shape something that needs more attention. And tug into the light some of the smaller joys that may be getting smothered by larger, not as pretty, blooms. As for the water, when you take your shower, imagine the spray washing off the stinky residue from what you've pruned away. When you step out, imagine starting fresh with a tended life bouquet, and don't forget to sniff the roses along the way.
